Using too little horse power cause the motors to run hot and burn out and the unit to vibrate loose from its fittings causing leaks.

If you find your sink is backing up when used, there is a drainage issue that needs addressing. If you are constantly needing to stop leaks, you may need a larger horse power. If it rattles when uses, it may be a thin basin or loose sink as well as the horse power being too low.
